Danisco Introduces Multi-enzyme Solution for Complex Poultry Diets

An optimized combination of xylanase, amylase and protease, Axtra® XAP meets the current market need for cutting feed costs, achieving net feed cost savings by ~$15/ tonne. It also increases energy efficiency and improves bird performance by optimizing nutrient availability in diets that include fibre/ protein rich by-products such as DDGS, rice bran, rapeseed meal, canola meal, sunflower meal, palm kernel meal and wheat pollard: Amylase maximizes starch digestion, while xylanase targets soluble and insoluble arabinoxylan to release captured nutrients. Protease improves amino acid digestibility and helps offset anti-nutritional factors such as trypsin inhibitors and lectins.

Dr Hagen Schulze, Senior Product Manager for Danisco Animal Nutrition, commented, "The use of high fibre feed ingredients can substantially reduce feed costs. However, as a consequence fibre-related anti-nutritional effects will increase too, leading to reduced animal performace. Just to give an example, a 10 per cent inclusion of rice bran or DDGS in a corn-soy poultry diet equates to a 20 per cent rise in crude fibre and up toup to 25 per cent increase in arabinoxylans in particular.

"Moreover, the inclusion of a range of high fibre feedstuffs slightly increases the dietary level of crude protein but reduces the level of starch as fibre is added, negatively impacting feed quality and animal performance. Finally, energy and nutrient requirements for that animal will increase, leading to reduced animal performance and increased environmental pollution. These detrimental factors can more than offset the potential economical gain achieved by inclusion of by-products in feed formulations."

Dr Schulze continued, "We have completed robust testing across complex diets to show that adding Axtra® XAP shows significant and consistent improvements in FCR. For example, meta-analysis of six Axtra ® XAP broiler trials, all containing phytase dosed at 500 FTU/ kg feed, revealed as well as significant nutrient and energy digestibility improvements, a bodyweight gain improvement of 3.9 per cent and a 5 per cent (9 points) improvement in bodyweight corrected FCR (see figure one). As a nine point improvement in FCR can save ~$80,000 per million birds produced, the benefit is significant for poultry producers facing rising feed costs. These results mean that our customers can implement radical feed cost savings without compromising bird performance or the environment."

Trials against other multi-enzyme products also showed that Axtra® XAP 101 TPT at 100 g/t improved the cost per kg gain by 3 per cent versus a corn/ soy positive control, while the competitor products were unable to show any cost per kg improvement.

In addition to its performance and digestibility benefits, Axtra® XAP is free flowing and dust free making it safe and convenient to handle and is thermostable to 95°C(203oF).
