Inovagro Programme to Allocate US$3.5 Million to Modernise Poultry

BRAZIL - The chief executive of the Brazilian Poultry Union (UBABEF), Francisco Turra, and Secretary of Agricultural Policy of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Neri Geller, met to discuss plans for the Inovagro programme established under the Agricultural and Livestock Plan 2013/14.

The programme was established in an effort to upgrade the productive structure in the poultry sector. This will be done so through the allocation of US$3.5 million for the modernisation of poultry farms.

Mr Turra said: "We must work to ensure that this feature does not stand still in government bureaucracies and institutions that often hinder Brazilian agribusiness. With this feature, it is expected that most of the farms with more altered structures, especially in the southern states of the country, regain thrie productivity levels, contributing to the competitiveness of the supply chain."

At the meeting, it was also pointed out that the Ministry is now ready to use all necessary mechanisms to ensure that suppky of grains, especially maize, in the south.

Mr Geller also pledged to assist the poultry industry in enabling the establishment of a Guarantee Fund for the sector.
