New Straits Times reports that customers were waiting from as early 9am despite the heavy traffic and hot weather to get their chickens.

The enterprise's chairman Ng Tee Chuan said this would be the first corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme introduced by his company to help the poor and underprivileged in the area.

He said the increase in the price of processed chicken in the market will burden consumers, especially those from the lower-income group.

"We are hoping that with every little contribution, we can ease their burden in preparing for Hari Raya," he said.

He said about 1,800 chickens and 800 chicks were handed out.

"We have spent almost RM10,000 on this programme and hope that they will have a better Hari Raya because of it," he said.

Mr Chuan added that the one-day programme in collaboration with the Pertubuhan Peladang Kawasan (PPK) Bukit Mertajam also aimed to promote its products among the locals.
