TheNews.pl reports that during January to May 2013, the country exported about 240,000 tonnes of poultry meat, up 14 per cent compared to the same period last year.

Poland already surpassed the the UK last year as the leading producer of chicken meat in the EU.

Maciej Przyborski, deputy head of Poland's National Poultry Council (KRD) has told the Rzeczpospolita daily that production is set to increase by a further 10 to 12 percent in 2013.

Besides exports, this is partly because Poles are consuming more poultry.

In 2013, Poles are set to consume an average of 27.5 kg of chicken meat per person, according to he Agricultural Market Agency (ARR). This amounts to almost 1 kg more than in 2012.
