The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 11. According to the report, a virus isolation test was conducted on 18 October, confirming the presence of the LPAI virus, serotype H5N2.

A total of 9,170 ducks were found susceptible, out of which 20 cases were reported. No deaths were observed and none of the birds were destroyed and/or slaughtered.

According to the OIE, during the third round surveillance conducted on the poultry farms around the first H5N2 infected duck farm detected in Hualien County in 2013, the H5N2 avian influenza virus was isolated from swabs taken from a meat-type duck farm on 18 October 2013.

Movement restriction was conducted.

The result of clinical investigation showed that the duck were in healthy condition without clinical signs and abnormal mortality.

The national laboratory confirmed this H5N2 outbreak as LPAI by virological tests and pathogenicity test (done by lethal rate of susceptible ducks) on 4 November 2013.

The source of the outbreak has not yet been determined.
