IEC is recognised by the ISO as the representative of the global egg industry.

Last year, the ISO set up a working group to address animal welfare conditions at a global level and facilitate the implementation of the OIE Animal Welfare Standards.

The results of the vote on the ISO NWIP (New Work Item Proposal) on Animal Welfare are now available, with 32 countries approving the NWIP, five countries disapproving of it, and 14 countries abstaining. A total of 29 countries would like to participate in the working group.

Considering the ISO rules (approval by a simple majority of the voting participating members of ISO/TC34 and a commitment to participate actively in the development of the project by at least five participating members of ISO/TC34), the project is now officially registered in the ISO/TC 34 work programme.
