Chinese Poultry Farm Reports H5N1 Bird Flu Outbreak

CHINA - A new outbreak of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has resulted in the death or destruction of more than 324,000 poultry on one farm in Guizhou province.

The veterinary authority sent Follow Up Report No. 2 dated 18 February to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report describes one outbreak of HPAI at a farm in the village of Zhailong in Guizhou province in southern China, starting on 13 February.

In total, 324,268 birds were affected of which, 3,629 showed symptoms and 976; the surviving 323,292 birds were destroyed.

The presence of the H5N1 subtype of the HPAI virus has been confirmed.

The source of infection is unknown.
