Low-Path H7N9 Bird Flu Virus Found at Five More Chinese Markets

CHINA - The low-pathogenic H7N9 avian flu virus has been detected in poultry at five markets between 17 and 28 January.

China's veterinary authority sent Follow Up Report No. 12 dated 11 February to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report outlines the discovery of the low-pathogenic avian influenza (A) virus of the H7N9 subtype at markets across eastern China.

Eleven of the 115,000 birds at the markets tested positive for the virus out of 801 samples taken. The sampling is part of the national surveillance plan and involved testing birds and the environment. No clinical signs were reported.

The markets were in Guigang (Guangxi province), Zhuji, (Zhejiang province), Meizhou and Zhuhai (Guangdong province) and Yueyang (Hunan province).
