The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received its first follow-up report since the last outbreak in December 2013. The outbreak has reportedly affected ornamental chickens, pigeons, guinea fowls and quails.

A total of 331 birds were found susceptible, out of which 210 cases were reported. A total of 90 deaths were recorded. 241 birds were destroyed.

According to the report, this outbreak occurred in a backyard with 300 ornamental pigeons. 210 pigeons showed clinical signs and 90 of them died. Adjacent to this place were 15 ornamental chickens, 12 pigeons, 2 guinea fowls and 2 quails.

No clinical signs were shown in these birds but samples were positive to Newcastle disease. All these birds were culled.

The OIE reports that the epidemiological investigation is ongoing; the source of the outbreak remains inconclusive.
