Viet Nam Reports Six More H5N1 Outbreaks in Poultry

VIET NAM - Six new outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) of the H5N1 sub-type have been reported, writes Jackie Linden. Almost 19,000 birds were involved in villages across the country.

The veterinary authority sent Follow up Report No. 5 dated 15 February to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The outbreaks started between 7 and 11 February in village flocks in six different provinces. In all, 18,981 birds were involved, of which 9,181 died and 9,800 have been destroyed.

The presence of the H5N1 sub-type of the HPAI virus has been confirmed.
