Set to take place on 13 and 14 May at Stoneleigh Park, the Royal Agricultural Society of England's Pig & Poultry Fair partnered by ABN is the industry’s leading technical event where the latest ideas, advice and new technology will be showcased.

The technical forums will see industry experts offer valuable advice that can be practically implemented on-farm to help drive business growth.

Rob Meadley heads up Brown & Co.’s renewable energy services and he will be focusing on energy diversification on-farm in one of the technical forums at the Fair.

He will discuss how production costs can be reduced on-farm, whilst also looking at improving the profitability of a pig or poultry unit. “However, with a range of diversification options available, it is important to choose the right option for your business,” he cautions.

Outlining the potential opportunities, Mr Meadley will describe how different options, from anaerobic digestion to wind turbines, might suit a business and the possible financial benefits of diversification. Rob will also advise ways producers can look to cut the cost paid for electricity, as well as how to reduce usage and reliance on-farm.

The Planning technical forum – ‘Planning permission – the path to success’ – is another ‘must-attend’ for any producers considering expansion on their unit. Brian Barrow, a Rural Planning Consultant and Managing Director of Acorus, will deliver tips and advice to ensure a smooth planning process and successful application.

“Planning applications for new agricultural developments can be very very costly and not always straightforward,” comments Brian. “It is therefore important to ensure the application stands up to scrutiny and has a good chance of success before submitting,” he adds.

Other forums being delivered over the two-day event will include raw material security, the use of media to positively promote the industry, as well as the outlook for both the pig and poultry sectors.
