Viet Nam Reports Two New Outbreaks of H5N1 Avian Flu

VIET NAM - Two outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza have hit village poultry flocks in southern Viet Nam this week.

The veterinary authority sent Follow Up Report No. 10 dated 6 March to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The first outbreak started on 3 March in Binh Duong province. It affected 710 village poultry, of which 477 were affected, 300 died and 410 had to be destroyed.

The second outbreak was in Ninh Thuan province and was discovered on 5 March. There 300 of a 500-bird village poultry flock died and the rest have been destroyed.

The presence of the H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza virus has been confirmed.
