Further Newcastle Disease Outbreaks in Israel Affect Egg Layers
ISRAEL - The Israeli veterinary authorities have reported two further outbreaks of Newcastle disease at poultry farms located in Hazafon.According to follow-up report no. 9 sent to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received on Sunday, 14 September, the affected population consists of 41-week-old and 99-week-old table egg layers. Drop in lay was observed.
A total of 5000 birds were reportedly found susceptible. However, no birds were found to be affected by the outbreaks. All 5000 birds were destroyed as a precautionary measure.
On 1 September, a real-time PCR test was carried out at the Northern Avian Diseases Laboratory. The test resulted positive, confirming the presence of the Newcastle disease virus.
The source of the outbreak remains inconclusive.
Several control measures such as stamping out, quarantine, movement control inside the country, screening and zoning have been applied.
