Two New Outbreaks of Newcastle Disease on Saint Helena

SAINT HELENA - There has been two new outbreaks of Newcastle disease on the South Atlantic island, Saint Helena.

Both outbreaks were detected in backyard laying hens.

There were 83 cases of the disease, which resulted in 68 deaths and the destruction of 90 birds.

The source of the outbreaks has not been confirmed, but is is thought to be the result of imported poultry meat.
