Bird Flu Spreads to Seoul City in South Korea

SOUTH KOREA - There has been a first report of the avian influenza virus in a market in the city of Seoul.

A case of avian influenza has been reported in Seongnam in Gyeonggi Province, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has confirmed.

The Chosun Ilbo reports that the chicken, from Moran Market, originated in the province. A total of 3,200 poultry have been culled there.

This is the first case of avian flu confirmed in the Seoul metropolitan area this winter.
