Israel Reports Three Newcastle Disease Outbreaks

ISRAEL - Three new outbreaks of Newcastle disease have been reported by the veterinary authority to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

Follow-up Report No.15 dated 4 March outlines three news outbreaks of Newcastle disease in poultry between 18 and 27 February.

The first two outbreaks were in the Acco region of Hazafon - in four-week-old broilers and 25-week-old table eggs layers, where a drop in lay and increased mortality were seen.

Another laying flock, this time layer breeders, was affected in the third outbreak, which was in Bizzaron in the Ashkelon region of Hadarom.

In total, 31,700 poultry were affected, including 600 that showed symptoms and 370 died; 17,830 birds have been destroyed.

The current outbreaks of Newcastle disease in Israel started in December 2013.
