Residents Protest Against Poultry Unit in India
INDIA - Residents of Gyanba Golden Glades of Narayanpur staged a protest accusing the Hubballi-Dharwad Urban Development Authority (HDUDA) officials of altering the City Development Plan (CDP) to set up a poultry unit in the area. The protesters alleged that as per the CDP, which was disclosed to the residents prior to the development of this layout, there had been provision for gutters and roads in the area, reports The Hindu.
However, a few HDUDA officials allegedly changed this plan after the development of the layout and a commercial site had been allotted in the space reserved for gutters and roads.
Owing to lack of gutter, rain water and drainage were getting collected on the mud road and the foul smell emanating from the poultry unit was causing problems too.
Though the government had strictly issued guidelines that poultry should not be set up in residential areas, these guidelines had been violated, the residents alleged.
Later, they submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner P. Rajendra Cholan seeking an inquiry into the matter.
