Two More Avian Flu Outbreaks in Ghana

GHANA - There have been two more outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Ghana.

One backyard holding and one farm were affected in Western province. Four-week-old broiler chickens were affected at the backyard holding and white, brown and black egg adult layers were affected on the farm.

There were 1672 deaths in these outbreaks, and 3459 birds were destroyed to prevent the disease from spreading.

The outbreaks were of the H5N1 serotype.
