More Avian Flu Reported in Viet Nam

VIET NAM - One outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza has been reported in the north and one in the south of Viet Nam.

The outbreak in the south, in Ca Mau province, was of the H5N1 serotype, and caused the deaths of 94 backyard birds. The outbreak in the northern Son La province was the H5N6 serotype, and killed 100 birds.

Overall, 732 birds had to be destroyed to prevent the disease spreading.
