On December 21, a highly pathogenic avian influenza has been identified in Cagnotte following a clinical suspicion in ducks farmed for fois gras.

Seven other highly pathogenic H5 avian influenza outbreaks were reported in duck farms as part of poultry sent to slaughter from the restricted area of Doazit – three outbreaks were in the town of Eyres Moncube, two of which are associated with an H5N9 strain of the virus, and four more outbreaks were reported in the towns of Cazalis, Hauriet, Mugron and Montsoue.

The exact strains of the viruses involved are still being determined.
