Hong Kong has suspended imports of poultry meat, products and eggs from Passaic County in New Jersey and Providence County in Rhode Island following highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza outbreaks in both areas, according to a news release from Hong Kong's Centre for Food Safety.

The suspension was triggered by a notification from the World Organisation for Animal Health and takes effect immediately. The CFS said it has contacted US authorities and will monitor developments closely.

Hong Kong imported approximately 11,940 tonnes of frozen US poultry meat and 3.53 million poultry eggs from the US in the first quarter of 2026, according to Census and Statistics Department data.
