Three New Avian Flu Outbreaks Reported in Taiwan

TAIWAN - Two outbreaks of H5N8 and one outbreak of H5N2 highly pathogenic avian influenza have been reported in Taiwan.

The H5N2 outbreak occurred in the Tainan City region, on a chicken farm. Over 3000 birds died and over 4000 were destroyed in the outbreak, which was detected after abnormal mortality.

The H5N8 outbreaks occurred on a goose farm in Tainan City, and another was found in abattoir in Kaohsiung City. Nearly 3000 birds were destroyed as a result of these outbreaks, and over 100 died.

All animals on the infected farms have been culled, and surveillance and disinfection measures have begun.
