“Veterinarians, scientists, students or anyone involved in the diagnosis of avian diseases will benefit from the pictures and disease descriptions in this book,” said Suzanne Dougherty, DVM, executive vice president for AAAP.

The sections in the book are organized by diseases, which are grouped by etiology. Each section consists of text and pictures of gross lesions.

The majority of pictures were taken in situ to show how the lesions appear at necropsy. Although gross lesions are emphasized, etiology, clinical signs and, if applicable, pathogenesis of the disease process and transmission of infectious agent are included.

More than 1,200 high-quality figures show the gross pathology of over 120 avian diseases. The overwhelming majority of pictures come from diagnostic cases that the authors have seen during their careers as avian pathologists.

Several figures are included for some diseases to show gross lesions in organs and tissues that vary in distribution, extent and severity. Anyone involved in the diagnosis of avian diseases will benefit from this book.

The book will be available for purchase on January 10, 2018, at for $125, plus shipping and handling. AAAP members get a 10% discount.

The American Association of Avian Pathologists is an international association whose mission is to promote scientific knowledge to enhance the health, well-being and productivity of poultry to provide safe and abundant food for the world.
