UK will not import chlorine-washed chicken from the US

Conservative MP and Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Theresa Villiers has confirmed that the UK will import chlorine-washed chicken after Brexit.

She explained to the BBC that this ban will continue into legislation after the UK leaves the European Union.

Noting animal welfare and the UK's high standards of production, Ms Villiers explained that the legal barriers against importing these products will remain in place.

The confirmation comes after many months of uncertainty on the issue, prompting concern from producers and consumers alike.
