Solomon Islands halts Australian poultry imports

The Solomon Islands have banned poultry, poultry meat and egg imports from Australia.

According to reporting from Radio New Zealand, the Solomon Islands announced the ban after outbreaks of highly contagious avian influenza were confirmed in poultry farms in the Australian state of Victoria.

The Solomons’ biosecurity director, Fancis Tsatsia, says that the ban, which covers all birds, meat and eggs, would protect the country’s domestic poultry industry.
