Belgium and UK report bird flu outbreaks

The new outbreaks have been recorded at a turkey farm in northern England and at a poultry farm near the French border.

According to Reuters and the UK Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA), Belgium has confirmed an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N5 bird flu on a poultry farm.

Belgium’s outbreak, which occurred in the western town of Menen near the border with France, killed 600 birds and led to the destruction of the other 151,000 birds in the flock.

The UK’s most recent outbreak of H5N8 highly pathogenic bird flu was confirmed in rearing turkeys at a premises near Northallerton, Hambleton, North Yorkshire.
