Avian influenza reported in Ontario, Canada
The number of birds in the commercial flock was not reportedOn September 17, 2022, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) confirmed the presence of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), strain H5N1, in a commercial flock located in the county of Oxford, Ontario. This is the first case of HPAI in a domestic flock in Ontario since May 18, 2022.
Avian influenza is a federally reportable disease in Canada under the Health of Animals Act. Attending veterinarians and owners are encouraged to report suspect cases of AI by contacting local district CFIA office.
