Sweden has reported an outbreak of the highly pathogenic H5N1 bird flu virus on a farm in the south of the country, Reuters reported, citing the Paris-based World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) on Wednesday, as the disease spreads in Europe and worldwide.

The virus killed 1,137 birds, with the rest of the 23,598-strong flock slaughtered, WOAH said, citing a report from the Swedish authorities.
