Brazil’s chicken exports hit second-highest monthly level - ABPA
October shipments rise 8% as South Africa leads demand
Brazilian chicken meat exports posted the second-highest monthly result in the sector’s history in October, according to the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA). Shipments totalled 501,300 tons, up 8.2% from the 463,500 tons exported in the same month last year.
From January to October, exports reached 4.378 million tons, virtually matching last year’s level of 4.380 million tons.
“October’s performance is the strongest since March 2023, when we set the sector’s monthly record. With the month’s significant shipments, we have almost eliminated the gap between this year’s volumes and last year’s, and we are revising projections toward likely growth in 2025,” said ABPA president Ricardo Santin.
Export revenue for October totalled US$865.4 million, down 4.3% from US$904.4 million a year earlier. For the year to date, revenue reached US$8.031 billion, a decrease of 1.8% from US$8.177 billion in the same period last year.
South Africa remained the leading destination, importing 53,700 tons in October, up 126.9% year-on-year. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates with 40,900 tons (+32%), Saudi Arabia with 36,630 tons (+66.1%), the Philippines with 34,000 tons (+38.2%), and Japan with 29,700 tons (-25.5%). “China’s recovery should also play a significant positive role in the sector’s results in the final months of the year,” Santin said.
Paraná continued as Brazil’s top exporting state with 205,100 tons (+7.9%), followed by Santa Catarina with 111,600 tons (+5.8%), Rio Grande do Sul with 60,900 tons (+8.8%), São Paulo with 32,200 tons (+12.3%) and Goiás with 27,300 tons (+44.4%).
