Australia gets its first in-ovo sexing technology for layer production
SBA introduces Cheggy ahead of June 2026 availability
Specialised Breeders Australia (SBA) announced the introduction of in-ovo sexing technology to Australia, marking a first for both the country and the wider Asia-Pacific region.
The technology, developed and refined over more than 15 years within the EW Group, will be offered under the Cheggy brand as an optional treatment for customers seeking a more humane hatch process.
Female chicks produced using the Cheggy in-ovo sexing process will carry the Certified Humane certification and are set to become available from June 1, 2026. SBA said the decision followed two years of consultations with customers, regulators and NGOs on the future of animal welfare in layer production.
