Michigan State to launch online broiler production course this fall

Five-session Zoom series aimed at beginners and small-scale producers

Michigan State University Extension is launching Broiler University (Broiler U), a new webinar series for those interested in learning about broiler chicken production, according to a university press release.

The series will run every other Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET from Sept. 2 through Oct. 28, 2026, hosted live on Zoom. The program fee is $40.

Broiler U is described as a comprehensive, science-based training program designed for beginners and small-scale producers, covering the full spectrum of broiler production from housing and nutrition to health management and marketing. Sessions are scheduled as follows:

  • Sept. 2: Housing & production fundamentals
  • Sept. 16: Nutrition & feeding strategies
  • Sept. 30: Sourcing birds & incubation
  • Oct. 14: Health management & biosecurity
  • Oct. 28: Farm business management & marketing

"This program is designed to meet learners where they are," said Francine Czerniawski, MSU Extension poultry specialist. "Whether someone is raising their first batch of birds or looking to improve their current system, Broiler U provides clear, actionable guidance rooted in science and best practices."

Participants who complete the full program will receive a certificate of completion. Registration is available at events.anr.msu.edu/broileru.
