His signature dish, Black Pudding Yolky, pushed him ahead of Coventry residents Dave Galvin and Kevita Bains, who with their dishes Bubble and Squeak with Hollandaise and Spicy Spanish Omelette were strong contenders for the title.

The cracking event was held at Henley College as part of a cooking competition to find the new 'Face of Eggs', which received more than 500 entries. These have been narrowed down to 12 finlaists in each region who are competing across UK kitchens throughout September.

Local chef Steve Love from the Craft Guild of Chefs was on hand to judge the finalists on their ability to poach the perfect egg and create a signature dish using British Lion eggs.

Jamie will now compete against regional winners from across the UK in the Eggs Factor final in London on 6 October. Michelin-starred celebrity chef Paul Merrett will be drawing on his expertise to decide just who will be crowned the 'Face of Eggs 2008'.
