Infectious Bronchitis Reported in Finland

FINLAND - A single case of infectious bronchitis has been reported in a layer flock in southern Finland.

The veterinary authority sent an Immediate Notification dated 15 April to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report describes a single outbreak of infectious bronchitis, which started on 23 March in a 11,700-bird layer flock at Kouvola in Itä-Suomi.

According to the report, the farm consists of four houses, three for laying hen and one for young growing chicken. In all three houses where egg-laying hens are kept, a dramatic fall in egg production was reported. All birds appeared to be affected although none died. Respiratory signs were registered in all four houses. Movement control of live animal to and from the farm has been applied.

The last outbreak of infectious bronchitis in poultry in Finland was in 1997.
