Introduction

A complex condition of turkeys and chickens associated with coarse fibrous feed. Over-distension of crop in young birds because of an interruption in feed supply may predispose.

Signs

  • Enlargement of crop.

Post-mortem lesions

  • Crop distended with feed, may be impacted, have ulcerations and sometimes mycosis.
  • Crop contents semi-liquid and foul smelling.
  • Lack of muscle tone.

Diagnosis

Signs, lesions.

Treatment

None.

Prevention

Remove predisposing factors, if these can be identified.
