Print This Page Arkansas Wants Hearing In Poultry Lawsuit
ARKANSAS - Arkansas is ready to argue its case to intervene in a federal lawsuit against poultry companies over pollution in the Illinois River allegedly caused by chicken litter spread on fields in the watershed.Attorney General Dustin McDaniel asked the court in the 1,043rd filing of the case to hear oral arguments on the nearly two-year-old lawsuit brought by Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson.
Gov. Mike Beebe filed the original motion while still Arkansas Attorney General last May, after the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear Beebe's request for the high court to pre-empt the case.
"Attorney General McDaniel intends to continue to aggressively pursue the case," said Gabe Holmstrom, a spokesman for McDaniel's office.
