Poultry Industry To Boost Exports
PHILIPPINES - The Philippine Association of Broiler Integrators is aiming to export about 5,000 to 10,000 metric tons of poultry products, mainly to Japan, from only 1,000 MT last year. Prior to the July 2005 export ban, the private sector already targetted a 10,000 MT poultry export in that year.Aside from Japan, poultry integrators may be able to also tap aside other export markets this year including Hong Kong.
Towards this end, the group is assisting the government in monitoring 20 "hotspot bird flu areas" nationwide to keep the country bird flu-free and thus boost its chances of meeting its export target
The critical areas now being strictly monitored by the government are Agusan del Norte – Lake Mainit, Agusan del Sur, Cagayan – Aparri, Cebu – Olango Island, Cotabato – Ligwasan Marsh in Kabacan, General Santos City, Ilocos Norte — Pagudpod, Isabela – Magat Dam, Mindoro – Naujan Lake, Negros Occidental – Himamaylan, Palawan — Quezon, Pampanga – Candaba swamp, Panay Island — Roxas and Capiz, Sibugay Province, Surigao del Norte, Sorsogon – Bulan and Matnog, Surigao del Sur, Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur.
