Camagüey Reports Remarkable Egg Production

CAMAGUEY - Once the poultry industry began a gradual recovery three years ago, the egg production grew in a sustainable manner up to 2006 when 104 million units were reported, in the current year the producers foresee to compute a total of over 120 million eggs.

Producers forsee a total of 120 million eggs in the next year.

The egg production in the eastern province of Camagüey grew by 14.5 million units this year in comparison to 2006, a substantial increase that has made possible to stabilize its sales in the subsidized food market.

Since the poultry industry began a gradual recovery three years ago, the egg production grew in a sustainable manner up to 2006 when 104 million units were reported, in the current year the producers foresee to compute a total of over 120 million eggs.

So far this year the egg production is over 61.5 million units. In addition to that the supply of chicken feed is guaranteed and the Combinado Avícola reactivated several farms and expects to exploit new flocks of excellent layers.

All this is part of national-wide investment program intended to guarantee this protein to the population, who receive them in rations of 10 units per month in an equitable manner and at subsidized prices, with possibilities to grow in the supply once the production gets bigger.
