Fibrowatt Names Second Power Plant

US - Fibrowatt vice president, Terry Walmsley, named the second site for its poultry-litter-to-power plant at the International Biomass Conference & Trade Show.

The Pennsylvania-based company aims to build its latest facility near Faison, N.C., on a site near the intersection of Interstate 40 and state Highway 403 in the eastern part of the state, reports BiomassMagazine.

It would be North Carolina’s first power plant fueled by poultry litter. Fibrowatt selected the site after an evaluation process that lasted more than a year.

Next, the company plans to agree to a power purchase agreement to sell the renewable energy generated at the 55-megawatt plant and obtain financing for the project, which is expected to exceed $200 million. It will begin discussions with the county on a development agreement for the site. Then, it will begin working with state regulators to complete the permitting process. Construction is slated to begin in 2009, followed by start-up in 2011.
