UK - Animal welfare activists Compassion in World Farming (CIWF) have branded UK Supermarket, Tesco, their '2008 Rotten Egg'. They claim that Tesco have failed to make any commitment to end the sale of eggs from caged hens, despite many other global food companies are switching to free range eggs.![]() |

While Tesco is being panned, other companies have been celebrated through the CIWF Good Egg Awards.
M&S, Waitrose and the Co-op have already ended the sale of shell eggs from caged hens. Sainsbury's have committed to do so by 2010 and Morrisons is planning to go free-range on its own label shell eggs by 2010.
Tesco policies mean over a million hens are confined in cages every year. CIWF say they must do the right thing and stop selling eggs from caged hens.
