Print This Page Viet Nam Reports Four New Cases of Bird Flu
VIET NAM - The Vietnamese authorities have sent a report to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) about four new cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI).
The veterinary authority in Viet Nam sent Follow up Report No. 30 to OIE dated 10 April 2008.
It describes four new outbreaks of HPAI. Three were in Lai Chau province, and one in Quang Ninh. All locations are in the north of the country, near the border with Lao. In total, 1786 birds were involved, with 1069 affected. Of these, 910 birds died and 751 were destroyed.
The presence of the H5N1 sub-type of the HPAI virus has been confirmed.
