Industry Urges EPA to Oppose Ethanol Petition

American Meat Institute (AMI) has joined a diverse group of business associations, public interest organizations and environmental groups – including the National Chicken Council and National Turkey Federation – in urging the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to deny a petition that would allow the use of so-called 'mid-level ethanol blends', i.e. blends above 10 per cent ethanol such as E15 or E20, in commerce.

"Any decision to introduce a new fuel formulation must only be undertaken after independent, rigorous and verifiable testing has been completed and concludes that such mid-level ethanol blends (whether E12, E15 or E20) will not pose a risk to all gasoline-powered engines, to public health, to the environment and to consumers," the letter to EPA Administrator, Lisa Jackson, states.
