Monthly US Turkey Hatchery Report
US - According to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), turkey eggs in incubators went down seven per cent and eight per cent fewer poults were hatched during August compared to the same month in 2008.
Eggs in incubators on 1 September down seven per cent from last year
Turkey eggs in incubators on 1 September 2009, in the United States totaled 26.5 million, down seven per cent from 1 September 2008. Eggs in incubators were down seven per cent from the 1 August 2009 total of 28.6 million eggs.
Regional changes from the previous year were: East North Central, down 14 per cent; West North Central, down one per cent; North and South Atlantic, down 19 per cent; and South Central and West, up 25 per cent.
Poults hatched during August down eight per cent from last year
Turkey poults hatched during August 2009 in the United States totaled 23.3 million, down eight per cent from August 2008. Poults hatched were down 10 per cent from July 2009 total of 25.8 million poults.
Regional changes from the previous year were: East North Central, down 11 per cent; West North Central, down seven per cent; North and South Atlantic, down eight per cent; and South Central and West down 10 per cent.
Net noults placed during August down seven per cent from last year
The 22.5 million net poults placed during August 2009 in the United States were down seven per cent from the number placed during the same month a year earlier. Net placements were down 10 per cent from the July 2009 total of 25.0 million.
