According to the report, 2009 Socio-Economic Statistical Data, from the Government Statistics Office, animal husbandry, particularly the concentrated and large-scale breeding continued developing. According to the farming survey at 01/7/2009, the number of farms rose by 18.5 per cent as against same period last year.

According to the animal husbandry survey at 01/10/2009, the country had 27.628 million pigs (+3.5 per cent), 280.2 million poultry (+12.8 per cent); 2.887 million buffalo (-0.4 per cent); 6.103 million oxen (-3.7 per cent). The decrease was mainly in draught animals (draught buffalos reduced by 4.7 per cent and draught oxen by 15.6 per cent).

However, the animal husbandry production in 2009 was still good. The live-weight of buffalo for slaughter was estimated at 75,000 tons (+4.8 per cent); beef was 257,800 tons (+13.7 per cent); pork was 2.931 million tons (+4.5 per cent); poultry meat was 502,800 tons (+12.2 per cent); and 5.952 billion eggs (+9.0 per cent). The figures in bracket refer to the change since the same period in 2008.
