Bhutan Reports New Bird Flu Outbreak

BHUTAN - One new outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has been reported.

The veterinary authority send Follow Up Report No. 3 dated 25 March to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

It describes one outbreak of HPAI in a village poultry flock at Burkhey in the region of Chhukha, which is in the west of the country and borders the Indian state of West Bengal. In total, there were 1,371 birds in the flock. Two birds died and the rest were destroyed.

According to the report, the clinical signs and gross lesions are consistent with HPAI. The rapid field test showed positive for influenza A and H5.
