USDA Chickens and Eggs Report - June 2010
US - US egg production totalled 7.45 billion during June, one per cent more than the same month last year, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) in their monthly Chickens and Eggs report for June 2010.

June egg production up one per cent
US egg production totalled 7.45 billion during June 2010, up one per cent from last year. Production included 6.38 billion table eggs, and 1.07 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.00 billion were broiler-type and 69 million were egg-type. The total number of layers during June 2010 averaged 338 million, up one per cent from last year. June egg production per 100 layers was 2,203 eggs, unchanged from June 2009.
All layers in the US on 1 July 2010 totalled 339 million, up two per cent from last year. The 339 million layers consisted of 281 million layers producing table or market type eggs, 55.6 million layers producing broiler-type hatching eggs, and 2.91 million layers producing egg-type hatching eggs. Rate of lay per day on 1 July 2010, averaged 73.2 eggs per 100 layers, down one per cent from 1 July 2009.
Egg-type chicks hatched up two per cent
Egg-type chicks hatched during June 2010 totalled 42.6 million, up two per cent from June 2009. Eggs in incubators totalled 37.5 million on 1 July 2010, up 13 per cent from a year ago.
Domestic placements of egg-type pullet chicks for future hatchery supply flocks by leading breeders totalled 318,000 during June 2010, down one per cent from June 2009.
Broiler-type chicks hatched up two per cent
Broiler-type chicks hatched during June 2010 totalled 787 million, up two per cent from June 2009. Eggs in incubators totalled 652 million on 1 July 2010, up three per cent from a year earlier.
Leading breeders placed 7.59 million broiler-type pullet chicks for future domestic hatchery supply flocks during June 2010, up six per cent from June 2009.
