One More Outbreak of H5N1 Bird Flu Reported

SOUTH KOREA - There has been one new outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) on a farm in the north of the country.

The veterinary authority sent Follow Up Report No. 14 dated 31 May to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report describes a single outbreak of HPAI at a farm at Yeoncheon-gun in GyeongGi province in the far north of the country. The outbreak started on 16 May on a chicken farm. Of the flock of 15,800 birds, 650 died and the rest were destroyed.

The presence of the H5N1 subtype of the HPAI virus has been confirmed.
