Russia Bans Brazilian Meat from Three States
RUSSIA - The Russia veterinary and food safety body, Rosselkhoznador is to impose temporary import bans on meat from processing plants from three Brazilian states.

The bans will come into force on 15 June on processors in the states of Mato Grosso, Parana, Rio Grande do Sul.
The ban is believed to include plants belonging to Brazil's major meat processors, JBS, Marfrig and Brasil Foods.
Rosselkhoznador said that inspections of 29 Brazilian plants carried out by the Rosselkhoznadzor specialists in April 2011 demonstrated that control provided by the Veterinary Services of Brazil over compliance with the Customs Union and the Russian Federation veterinary and sanitary norms and requirements was significantly relaxed.
The food safety authority said that the inspection demonstrated that none of the inspected plants complied with the norms and requirements.
"Since veterinary services of these States provide insufficient control, there is a possibility to export dangerous (from the veterinary and sanitary point of view) products to the Russian Federation," Rosselkhoznador said.
