Danisco Enzyme Combinations Minimise Variability

GLOBAL - High energy prices and the volatility of grain, fat and oilseed meal markets have placed pressure on nutritionists to apply dietary strategies that reduce the impact of increasing raw material prices on the cost/kg of poultry produced. One option is to increase the use of enzymes in the feed to ensure additional nutrient value is captured.

When Phyzyme XP (500 FTU/kg) and Axtra XB (100g/tonne) are used in combination, at current high raw material prices, these enzymes can give feed costs savings of approximately €24/tonne compared to feed without enzyme inclusion. These savings can be improved by an additional 0.90-1.40 €/tonne after increasing the dose of Phyzyme XP by an extra 250-500 units/kg of feed.

New Axtra XB (xylanase/beta-glucanase), which is registered for use in all poultry species, and Phyzyme XP (phytase) are two enzyme products that can be used in combination to reduce variability in the nutritional value of key raw materials. They do this by specifically targeting different anti-nutrients in the diet. These anti-nutritive factors such as phytate and specific fibre components e.g. beta-glucans and arabinoxylans, which are typically found in lower priced, higher fibre raw materials, have a detrimental effect on digestibility and nutrient availability. Using enzymes in combination allows greater flexibility in the variety of poultry feed ingredients that can be used and ensures healthy profits at the same time as improving bird uniformity.

Increasing phytase units in feed formulations not only decreases the amount of supplementary inorganic phosphate required, but also combats the anti-nutritive effect of phytate. An additional 250 units of Phyzyme XP, on top of current usage, can result in a more effective release of additional amino acids and digestible energy from the diet. The combination of an increased inclusion of phytase with a reliable, highly effective carbohydrase enzyme means greater profits, increased flexibility to use a wider range of raw materials whilst minimising variability in feed nutrient values.

Danisco Animal Nutrition supplies specific matrix values for its customers' feed formulations on request. To find out how much you could save by using Phyzyme XP in combination with Axtra XB, please contact your local Danisco business manager or distributor.
