Emergency Management System Activated to Combat Avian Influenza
10 July 2012MEXICO - Following outbreaks of High Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Jalisco, the government has launched an emergency management system to combat the virus.
On 2 July, 2012, the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fishery and Food (SAGARPA) announced its implementation of the Animal Health Emergency National Mechanism in
order to diagnose, prevent, control, and eradicate the avian influenza (AI) type A, subtype H7N3 virus recently detected in Mexico.
Previously, on 29 June, 2012, SAGARPA reported that the AI outbreak
had spread from three to 10 farms poultry farms and affected approximately 1.7 million birds.
