Aviagen Concludes 49th Annual Production Management School
US - The Arbor Acres School began nearly half a century ago in Connecticut. Now dubbed the Aviagen Production Management School, the course is held each year in Huntsville, Alabama, and has grown dramatically in size and scope over the years. Since its inception, well over 1,000 men and women from over 100 different countries have successfully completed the Aviagen School.

“Aviagen is committed to sharing knowledge and best practices with our customers to ensure customers get the best possible performance from our birds,” said Neal Scanlon, director of the school, Aviagen. “The Aviagen School has a legacy of preparing the next generation of production managers for future success in the global poultry industry.”
This year the 49th Production Management welcomed 24 participants from 16 different countries for the intensive four-week course with a reception dinner hosted by company executives and School staff. The School, held from 2 - 29 June, featured more than 38 speakers from academia and the poultry industry in a rigorous pace of 46 classroom sessions, and 15 hands-on practical workshops, labs and live production facility visits. The breadth of topics covered during the month long course included poultry nutrition, veterinary, hatchery operations, production and farm management best practices for managing successful breeder and broiler operations. Participants were given weekly written exams that culminated in a formal graduation dinner and ceremony at the Huntsville Botanical Gardens.
Ian Panton, former CEO of Aviagen Group with over 40 years service in the primary breeding industry, delivered welcome remarks and presented the course graduates with their certificates of completion and awards for the top achievers in the School based on an average of weekly test scores. This year’s graduation ceremony honored three top students:
- Roberto Haddad, Agroindustrial Proave, Costa Rica received highest honors
- Joel Kopanica, Baiada Poultry, Australia received second highest honors
- Issa Manasra, Fakieh Poultry Farms, Saudi Arabia received third highest honors
“We are all very proud of the students and their accomplishments during the Aviagen School this year. Their hard work will repay them in many ways and we’re confident that they will continue their careers with even more successes,” said Panton. “We look forward to welcoming the next group of students from around the world to the School’s 50th anniversary.”
